I do believe that we all should contact our congress person too I have been turned down for the same reason Ive been out of work sense Sep 2008 and my credit is hurting. If you are out of work and collecting unemployment it is very diffcult to keep your bills up, I went from fifty thousand a year to about a third of that on unemployment and these companies use this to pick and choose. If you have good credit that makes you a good employee and reliable I sorry but thats bull I have worked with one company for twenty six years and only missed maybe four days due to sickness in those years but now I am a high risk because I can not make my bills that should be agianst the law!!!
Has anyone out there thought of pooling our skills to perhaps start a new business? Just a thought. There must be something we can do together to support one another and also make a little money. Any ideas or thoughts appreciated.
I would love the idea of starting a business. I have thought about the idea of cleaning out forclosed homes as one, but i don't know where to start. do you talk to the banks, the mortgage companies or who, and do you need to have a business license first.
Another idea is starting a small business at the begining of the school year making a flyer stating i will make the treats for the kids if the parents don't have time or they fogot at the last minute.
if you like any of these idea's or think you know where to start with them let me know maybe we can work together
I live in Princeton NJ and I've been out of work since November 2007. I am a sales, business development and marketing executive. Savings are gone, Unemployment is done. I have seen the posts here in pooling together on starting a business. I think that's a great idea. Synergy created by two or more people is always greater than the sum of the individual part.
First off I think people who post here should say in the very first line where they're from, to see if we're in an area where we can pool together.
Second I think we should say what our areas of expertise are so we can view the synergy that might bring us together.
I have started three businesses since I've been unemployed plus done some management consulting where I can pick up a gig or two. I started one business in personal development, another as a concierge service for active older adults wanting to stay in their homes and need a little help; and a third in a network marketing company in a revolutionary new anti aging product. I also teach piano lessons on the side, and pick up odd jobs where I can.
I don't consider myself a failure at 58, I consider myself a renaissance man, master of many talenets. I would be happy to be part of a discussion group, or a forum or a talent pool to pool resources and talents together. I have spent 27 years in corporate America at an executive level, and 7 years as a Field Artillery Officer in the US Army before that. There's got to be resources somewhere in all that experience that I can share. I'm ready willing and able to do that with anyone who wants to partner.
To clean out home that have been taken over by the bank you would be best to contact your local Realtors. Realtors are contacted by mortgage companies to have locks changed and clean out the home. Realtors get no compensation for doing this, but usually end up with the listing. You may just want to make up a flyer and send it to all the local Realtors in your area.
I too think it is a travesty of justice that many employers are running credit checks on prospective candidates. It does make sense if they are going to be handling money, as they probably don't want someone to take care of their books if they can't take care of their own. for other jubs, no way. But I wonder why no one has challenges the legality of mandatory drug screening. I do not advocate illegal drug use in any way, but isn't this against civil liberties? And almost everyone is also running background checks even for jobs such as picking and packing. And if you have any kind of hit, no matter how insignifant, it can disqualify you. Pretty soon it might get down to wanting you to wear a certain size shoe!
I would also like to see all states adopt the Model Employee Termination Act, which currently hasa been adopted in only one state. What this would do would be to give terminated employees who don't have union representation a voice. It may not overturn a firing decision, but it would at least give them a chance to tell their side of the story, which in many cases is never done.
