Registration

Q. Why should I register for the site?
A. Site registration is quick, easy and free. By registering and creating an account, you can take advantage of all the site's features, including: Leaving comments on resources, posting in our forums, contributing to the wiki and submitting your own resources. By registering for the Unemployment LifeLine, you also become a member of Working America, a powerful voice for working people.

Q. How do I register?
A. On every page there is an orange box that will allow you to register for the site if you haven't already. Enter your e-mail address, click on the circle next to Sign Up and complete the required form.

Q. Do I have to register?
A. No, you may search for resources without an account; however, some site features, including commenting, forums, submitting a resource and the wiki, do require registration.

Q. How do I log in?
A. If you have created an account, you may log in by using the orange box and clicking on the circle next to Log In. Then enter your e-mail address and password, and you'll be logged into the account.

Q. I've forgotten my username and/or password; what do I do?
A. You can request your password to be e-mailed to you, at the e-mail address you used to register for the site, by clicking here and completing the form.

Commenting

Q. What kind of comments should I leave on the site?
A. Leave comments about your experience with a particular resource. Was it particularly helpful? Leave a comment to that effect. If there are specific circumstances about things a resource does that aren't evident in our listing, you can leave a comment about that as well.

Q. I need help; if I leave a comment asking for help on a particular resource, will someone contact me?
A. No, please contact any resources directly, either by phone, e-mail or on their own website.

Q. My comment didn't show up. What happened?
A. One of two things may have happened if your comment has not shown up. Firstly, it may be that your comment still is awaiting review. We moderate comments often. Check back soon and see whether your comment has appeared. Secondly, take a look at our commenting policy and ensure your comment followed our policy. Comments that violate our commenting policy will not be posted, and may be deleted, without notification.

Flagging, Editing and Submitting Resources

Q. What is 'Flag as needs review/duplicate'?
A. With your help, our site is continually improving. If a particular resource needs to be reviewed, clicking on this link will flag the record for our moderators. If there is something in particular we should be aware of, leave a comment about why you flagged a resource.

Q. What things should be flagged?
A. Duplicate resources are the most common reason to flag a resource. If a particular resource is in our system more than once, flag one of them and leave a comment telling us there is a duplicate. In addition, if the resource no longer exists, is incorrect or generally should not be on our site, flag it and let us know in a comment.

Q. What is 'Edit this resource'?
A. Sometimes information on the Unemployment LifeLine is incorrect. If it is, and you know how to fix it, clicking "Edit this resource" will bring up a page to let you enter the correct information. Edits will be sent to our moderators, who will review and post your corrections on our site.

Q. What is 'Click here to submit additional resources'?
A. The Unemployment LifeLine is a growing resource. If there is a particular resource missing from our site, you can add it. The add a Resource page lets you enter the critical information about a new resource.

Forum and Wiki

Q. What's a forum?
A. A forum is a place to have a discussion with other visitors to the site. You can ask questions and get answers from other site users. Talk about a particular struggle you're facing. Or even just vent and get feedback from others. Forums are places to connect with others. Our forum is located here.

Q. How do I post to the forum?
A. You must be a registered user to post in our forums. Click on the “talk with others” tab, choose the category you'd like to post in, and then you can respond to an existing post or create your own topic for discussion.

Q. What's a wiki?
A. A wiki is a collection of Web pages that anyone with access to can contribute or modify content. You may have heard of Wikipedia, the online encyclopedia that anyone can add to or edit. The Unemployment LifeLine wiki is a collection of tips for handling joblessness, from the financial challenges to the emotional ones.

Q. How do I edit the wiki?
A. You must be a registered user to contribute to the wiki. Click on the "Worker Wiki" link in the navigation bar on the right, choose the page you'd like to edit or add to, or create your own page.

Missing or Incomplete Information

Q. Your site is missing a particular resource in my area. How can I add it to your site?
A. The Unemployment LifeLine is a growing resource. If there is a particular resource missing from our site, you can add it. The add a Resource page lets you enter the critical information about a new resource.
