Health Insurance
i am a 58/yo female who has worked since I was 15 years old paying into Medicare and Social Security. I raised my two children on my own without any help from the government or from child support.
I have had a stroke, heart attack, diabetes, spinal fusion, neck fusions with two titanium plates in my neck w/6 screws in each. I filed for Disability after my last surgery I filed for Social Security on my own and was approved the first time. I was told that I could NOT receive Medicare until I have been approved for Disability for two years. I applied for SSI and received it for 2 months with a Passport Medical Card and once my Disability checks started that was cancelled. I was denied a medical card due to the amount of Disability that I receive. $1,200.00 monthy. as if that is a lot to live on in a month with household expenses, and medical expenses and RX's. I have to pay all of these on my own without insurance which is a substancial amount a month.
My question is: When you apply for Disability you usually have a Medical reason for applying for Disability. But you can NOT get Medical Help for two years AFTER the date you were approved. How can they justify having you to wait for two years for Medicare. What are we supposed to do? I have had to STOP going to certain Doctors because I can not afford their charges and I do not take my medicines like I should because I can not afford them.
Now I do get help with my Lantus and Humalog, and Plavix through the Pharmacuticals and I really do APPRECIATE their help, However, I have other medicinces to take that I can not get any help with.
I do not see how I have NEVER asked for any help from the government at all as a single mother with no support. I have worked and PAID into Medicare and I have to wait for two years to get Medicare. Now is this FAIR I ask. WHAT AM I TO DO?

Have you tried to apply fo Medicaid and or try your local clinic. There are local drug stores who have discounted programs and will give you a list of generic meds for someone on a fixed income. Walmart, walgreen, Kmart. Maybe speak to a patient advocate in your area.
t sound like Medcare and Disability being government/state sponsored programs feel this is a form of double dipping. The system is really backwards. Good luck.
